Washing a jacket

Before you even think about water and detergent, check the care label. It’s like deciphering a secret message. If it says ‘machine washable’, you’re in luck! Nylonjackets, cosy fleece jackets and down-filled wonders – these are the workhorses of your wardrobe. Set your washing machine to a gentle cycle with cold water. When you’re done, you can pop the puffer jacket in the tumble dryer with tennis balls or tumble dryer balls to make it fluff up like a marshmallow.

For jackets that can only be hand-washed, you’ll need to channel your inner gentleman. Fill a basin with cold water and add a mild detergent. Gently swish your jacket around – do not scrub or wring it out vigorously! Leave it to soak in the soapy water for 15–30 minutes. Rinse it as if you were whispering sweet nothings to silk.

Waterproof jackets are like superheroes of outerwear – they protect you from raindrops and drizzle. Fill a basin with cold water, add the recommended detergent, and gently submerge your jacket. You don’t need to scrub it, do you? Leave it to soak, then rinse it thoroughly. Hang it up to dry, like a cape.
