A dress isn’t just a dress.
There are thousands of different dresses in a world of colours, fabrics, shapes and lengths. So it’s no wonder you’re finding it hard to choose just one dress. When choosing a dress, you should first consider which style suits your body shape. Based on your body shape, you’ll have plenty of options for finding the right dress for a festive occasion.
Which dress should I choose? Read the article to find out.
FIND THE PERFECT DRESS – BASED ON YOUR BODY SHAPE
Women come in all shapes and sizes. There are short and curvy women, as well as tall and slender women. Diversity is wonderful, which is why you shouldn’t be ashamed of your body shape, whether you’re apple-shaped, pear-shaped or have a completely different body shape. All women are beautiful in their own way – remember that.
The most common body shapes are as follows:
- Pear shape (choose a fitted dress – perhaps with a sleeveless or strapless top)
- Apple shape (choose a dress with a fitted top and a loose-fitting skirt)
- Hourglass shape (choose a dress that fits snugly around your waist; you might want to wear a belt)
Whether you want to look slimmer and/or more slender, you can find a dress that meets your needs. You can also emphasise your feminine curves by choosing a fitted dress – perhaps one with a low-cut neckline.
Many women find it difficult to assess whether they have a pear-shaped, apple-shaped or hourglass figure. The easiest way to find out is to search online for the different body shapes so you can compare your own figure with others’. That’s not to say you should let it bother you if your body shape isn’t like everyone else’s. Everyone looks different – and of course there should be room for that.
When it comes to choosing a dress, you need to ask yourself a very important question: what do you want to emphasise? Do you want to emphasise your toned bottom, your full bust or your slim waist? With the right dress, it’s also possible to conceal any unwanted curves.

THE OCCASION ALSO MATTERS
Very few dresses are suitable for every occasion, although it would, of course, be nice to be able to buy a single dress that could be worn to weddings, birthday parties and anniversary celebrations alike.
For example, it’s a bit daring to turn up at an informal birthday party in a short, low-cut dress. You should at least give some thought to the impression you want to make on the host and the other guests.
When buying a new dress, you should also think about which dresses will go with your party shoes. After all, everything should match – from the dress and shoes to make-up and jewellery. Before ordering, have a look at our size guide, which will help you work out which dress size suits you best. Most dresses are true to size, but there may be a few that run either a size larger or smaller than usual. Of course, a dress must be bought in the right size if it’s to fit nicely and look feminine on your figure.
